Chris Knight is a unique underwater photographer exploring the ocean’s mesophotic ‘twilight’ zone, ranging from 200 to 450 feet deep. Very little sunlight penetrates to these largely unexplored depths, where new species are regularly discovered. Using cutting-edge diving technology, Chris dives areas of Hawaii and the Pacific which have never before been photographed.

Artist’s statement: “My goal is to depict the haunting beauty of the deep ocean’s life-filled landscapes, to raise awareness of the importance of underwater biodiversity preservation. Entire ecologies thrive in the dark here, buried forever under millions of pounds of seawater. I am constantly surprised by the stunning, vibrant colors of these coral ecosystems in a place with no light. Their colors are displayed for their first and only time when I shine my floodlights on them to capture a single image.”
